2024 Year of the Dragon
|
For the 15th edition of the Pocket Chinese Almanac we extend our visual reach to the recent Cantonese diaspora in the United Kingdom with a commissioned work by Hong Kong-born illustrator and satirist Ah To (b. 1983), now residing in London and designer of a set of whimsically nostalgic postcards entitled “To someone I missed in Hong Kong,” published as part of the 2023 Hong Kong Film Festival UK. Happy children (and a cat) celebrate Lunar New Year with fireworks in Victoria Harbour. They are frolicking on the waterfront of Tsim Sha Tsui, against the skyline that includes I.M. Pei’s Bank of China building (far left) and César Pelli’s International Finance Centre (far right), iconic structures of Hong Kong's skyline.
